Marcus Aurelius quote

‘Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.’

Order?

picture of the post Right now, it is raining methane on Titan. The planet Uranus, apparently trying to live up to its name, is orbiting the sun sideways, while Venus spins backwards. There are stars exploding, black holes gorging, galaxies, colliding. And here we sit, on a planet pock-marked by collisions, rocked by earthquakes, shaken by storms. A planet doomed to be fried in radiation as its magnetic fields collapse, until finally the sun grows into a read giant and leaves nothing of the Earth but dust. Here we sit, glasses on our noses, inhalers in out pockets, braces on our teeth, waiting to die as our heart muscle expires, our cell decide to grow forever, or a blood vessel just pops, and sometimes in unnatural ways, too. Here we sit, and some of us say, behold, look at the order of it all.

Reflection

It's a luxury to go off on your own and reflect on your life. The first day of spring is as good as any.

Lawrence Krauss

Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life - weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be here today.

Bill Hicks

Today is the 17th anniversary of Bill Hick's death. Everything I do has a a tie back to him. Still not to late to shoot billy ray cyrus.

Revolution

There are groups uprising against in the middle east, the key thing is what kind of government forms. If there is an actual democracy then they're in good shape, but a theocracy means you're just in as bad shape as when you began.

Here again

Protesting is irrelevant, and of course has had it's power ripped away from it by time a waning memory. But I'm here again saying we need to end the wars we're in. I'm a tax paying American citizen who doesn't want his money wasted.

Wiki Leaks

http://www.boingboing.net/2010/12/03/wikileaks-blocked-bu.html An interesting thing that has come out of this whole wikileaks issue is how the "cloud" still isn't the best option for stability. Because unlike a private network where everything can be hidden behind a firewall and everyone internally can still hit it. The cloud based models by default are open to the world and therefore open to attack. Another interesting point is how the WWW part of the internet is becoming a less used. If you can't hit a wikileaks site with you put up a mirror, and if those fail bit torrents are a strong backup. http://sowhyiswikileaksagoodthingagain.com/

Look closer

Leading environmental campaigners support nuclear and GM http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/8098812/Leading-environmental-campaigners-support-nuclear-and-GM.html The lies have already made there way through the world, it's like taking pee out of the ocean. We need answers, not someone with misinformation who doesn't want progress.

French protesters

Paris, France (CNN) -- Central Paris is bracing for more demonstrations Thursday afternoon as protesters and lawmakers go down to the wire in a battle over pension reform. http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/10/21/france.strikes/index.html?hpt=T1 Why aren't we doing this in the US? Why isn't this being reported on for more than just a sound byte on the TV news? This is basically what's happening to the US, but we're too busy trying to destroy ourselves.
